A GREENOCK girl has challenged her parents to face their fear of heights for a good cause by taking on a 100-feet high zipslide challenge along the River Clyde.

Summer Brown, 12, will join parents Jo-Anne and Alan at the event in Glasgow on September 1.

The trio are taking on the challenge in aid of Ardgowan Hospice.

The Clydeview Academy pupil said: “I wanted to do another fundraiser to help the Hospice and after watching the zipslide on YouTube I thought it looked really fun.

“I then wanted to challenge my mum and dad to do it with me as I know they both don't like heights."

Mum Jo-Anne, a senior charge nurse at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, is hoping to tackle her fear on the day.

She said: “I know this fear is nothing compared to how people would feel should the hospice need to cut down on services, so I agreed to my daughter's challenge.

“Hopefully, as a family, we can help raise some vital funds."

Alan added: “After my daughter and the boys in the McGill’s office said I would be too scared to take part in this challenge, I had to prove them wrong and tell them to put their money where their mouth is in support of the hospice."

The Brown family will be joined by a number of hospice fundraisers on the day, including care assistant Julie Ross – who is also hoping to conquer her fear of heights.

Those interested in taking part in the event have until Monday to secure their place.
