GREENOCK’S Waterfront Cinema has thanked families for their ‘love and support’ over the summer holidays after it issued an appeal highlighting the financial challenges facing the industry earlier this year.

In April, the venue warned it had seen an almost 30 per cent drop in visitor numbers post-Covid.

At the time, owner David Shaw said the business facing an ‘uncertain future’ unless more people made use of the facility.

In a statement shared on its social media channels, the Waterfront Cinema team said: “We hopefully made you aware that the threat of closure is real and will continue to be real without your long term support.

“Whether your support has been in the form of words of encouragement, more frequent visits or donations, our team would like to thank you for the incredible support you've shown us.”

During the school break, the cinema hosted a range of screenings, as well as events such as birthday parties, nursery and school meet-ups and corporate days out.

In the coming months, the Waterfront will welcome a number of blockbusters, including Joker: Folie A Deux, Gladiator 2 and Wicked.

Theatre fans will also be able to enjoy showings of Jodie Comer’s Prima Facie, Miss Saigon and The Phantom of the Opera at the Royal Albert Hall.

The cinema’s team added: “With so much to look forward to during the rest of the year, our team can’t wait to welcome you back again to your local independent cinema.”
