THE developers behind a £10million project to create 30 new houses in Greenock’s west end gave the Telegraph an exclusive first look inside their new show home which opens this weekend.
CCG Homes is constructing 24 terraced villas and six terraced houses at the former Greenock Academy site on Madeira Street, now called The Scholars.
A show home has now opened on site to give locals the chance to see inside the luxurious townhouses.
CCG Homes’ development and marketing manager Chris Murray took the Telegraph on the tour of the impressive three-storey house, which is based on an award-winning house type designed by the firm.
The two house types, ‘Muir’ and ‘The Mara’, are contemporary takes on traditional Victorian townhouses and Chris hopes their eye-catching design and striking interiors will be enough to woo locals.
He said: “We’re excited to have people in and let them see the show home.
“We’re not a volume housebuilder, we try to work on an individual basis site-to-site and I always like to try and tie in a bit of the heritage.
“You naturally try to consider the location, the history of what you’re building and try to combine that into an image.
“The colour schemes in here for example are the reflection of the old school’s coat of arms and ‘The Scholars’ is a creative way of trying to have that wee nod to the past.”
The ground floor of the show home features a cosy TV room, which can also be a fourth bedroom, as well as a shower room and a utility room.
On the first floor is an impressive, open-plan living space and a luxurious kitchen equipped with a full compliment of appliances.
The second floor has three sizeable bedrooms, with the largest being a master en-suite containing a walk in wardrobe and a bathroom.
Each home comes with a large rear garden and plenty of parking space.
The transformation of the previously derelict site took an enormous investment and effort on the part of the developers.
Chris hopes the new houses will be a welcome addition to the local community and provide buyers with a luxurious, contemporary home for years to come.
He added: “This site has been vacant since 2015, people have got an attachment to the site and you’ve got local community members who no doubt will have went to the school, but our perspective is that this is much better than the site lying derelict.
“We would approach any development with the best intentions for the community and the market itself, we’re giving people who want to buy in Greenock a fresh offering.
“CCG Homes as an entity is part of the CCG group, the CCG Scotland group from a contracting point of view has worked in Greenock with Inverclyde Council on a number of education projects like the Glenpark Early Learning Centre, the St Ninian’s Primary School and we’ve worked at Moorfoot.
“This could have been intimidating for us, but not where we are now.
“We’re now very much into the development, we’ve created new frontage on Newark Street and the site has dramatically changed, which I think it for the better.
“New build housing whether it’s affordable or private stimulates regeneration within communities.
“This is a very small pocket of the west end and this will only be of benefit and it’ll be transformative in terms of the site.
“We feel as if it’s going to positively contribute.”
Prices for the properties start at £335,000 and CCG Homes are aiming to finish construction on the houses in early 2025.
