A SECOND public consultation will be held next week on plans to build a battery energy storage site between Port Glasgow and Kilmacolm.

The exhibition, at Port Glasgow Golf Club on August 27, follows on from a similar event last month which showcased the proposals for the High Mathernock BESS (battery energy storage system).

The Telegraph previously reported that the agricultural land earmarked for the proposal, on Auchentiber Road, would be developed to include 87 battery units - with a capacity of up to 334MW - for the storage of excess electricity before releasing it to the national grid during times of high demand.

An acoustic fence would surround the site, close to Inverclyde Wind Farm on Corlic Hill and the Devol Moor substation, and a retaining wall would also be installed, while the proposal includes a plan to plant structural woodland around the periphery to mitigate potential visual impacts and enhance biodiversity.

The project website states that the site could be online by 2029.

Developers Forestry Finance Ltd, set up by local farmer David Connell, say their intention is to submit a formal application in the coming months and they are "seeking the views of the public to inform our proposal".

They added: "We will accept comments from the community until September 9, allowing us to incorporate feedback into the proposed BESS application."

The consultation event will run next Tuesday at the golf club from 2pm to 4.30pm and from 5pm to 7pm.
