A FAMILY with decades of experience in the restaurant industry are set to open the doors to their latest eatery in the heart of Greenock this week.

Mango will begin serving up an array of Indian and European dishes at its West Blackhall Street base from Friday.

The unit, formerly home to Fenwick Tapas, has been refurbished in recent weeks to give it a fresh look ahead of the big opening.

Owner Jasbir Singh is launching the new businesses with the help of daughter Preet, who has taken up the role of manager at the restaurant.

Mr Singh has been running restaurants in Glasgow and South Lanarkshire for 35 years, but Mango is his first venture into Inverclyde.

Preet, 36, has been working alongside her dad for the past 20 years and says she is excited to take up the reins at Mango.

She told the Tele: “I’ve been doing this since I was 16, so I think I’ve got a lot of experience.

"I started on the tills and the phone, then into the bar, then making menus.

“I’ve learned from my dad and now he’s helping me build this.

“We’ve always been in Glasgow, but we found this place and we thought it looked great.

“I really wanted something near the sea as well, so it was perfect.

“When we saw the area, we thought this was something that we could bring to it.”

Preet has drawn on her industry experience to carefully curate a menu for Mango which she hopes will impress diners in Inverclyde.

She added: “I’ve put in a lot of effort because wanted it to be a bit different.

“In Scotland, I feel like it’s the same menu and routine everywhere. We wanted to do something a bit different for customers.

“I think when they see that big list on the menu, people get confused about what to order.

"We’ve reduced it a bit and selected specials.”

Mango will be open for sit-in dining and takeaway from 12pm-10pm Monday to Saturday, and from 3-10pm on Sundays.
