A CALMAC vessel is due to depart Greenock this evening having undergone repairs after an onboard fire caused her engine to fail.

MV Lord of the Isles arrived at James Watt Dock Marina earlier this month for maintenance.

The ferry was covering the Mallaig to Lochboisdale route on August 6 when a small fire forced her crew to divert to Armadale on the Isle of Skye.

CalMac said the blaze was extinguished quickly, with no injuries being sustained during the incident.

Lord of the Isles was due to depart dock in Greenock following repairs to her starboard main engine, but this was delayed due to adverse weather.

She is now due to leave for Oban at 6pm.
