AN ALLEGED Greenock drink driver is said to have been almost three times the alcohol limit when he failed to stop for police.

Gary Kelly is charged with driving a Suzuki Alto on Burns Road on February 5 while the proportion of alcohol in his breath was 61 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit in Scotland is 22mcg per 100ml.

Kelly, 34, is accused of failing to stop the vehicle after being requested to do so by a pair of police officers in uniform.

The accused, of Minerva Lane, pleaded not guilty through solicitor Aidan Gallagher during a calling of the case at the town's sheriff court last week.

An adjourned trial date - pushed back due to a police witness being on holiday - has been scheduled for December 16.
