ONE person has been taken to hospital after a car flipped on to its roof in an incident in Greenock's west end.

Crews rushed to the accident on Union Street, near its junction with Forsyth Street, this afternoon.

The Scottish Ambulance Service (SAS) has sent several vehicles to the scene, with two fire engines also responding.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 3.29pm on Wednesday, 28 August to reports of a road traffic collision in Greenock.

"Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the town's Union Street, where firefighters were met by a collision involving two vehicles.

"Firefighters assisted one casualty to safety before transferring them into the care of Scottish Ambulance Service personnel.

"The casualty was thereafter transferred to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for further treatment.

"One appliance currently remains on scene with firefighters working to make the area safe."
