A GREENOCK man is set to go on trial next week charged with sexually assaulting a woman at a pub in the town.

It is claimed that Arron McEwan, 28, repeatedly attempted to kiss the alleged female victim on the mouth at Chaplins Bar on Inverkip Street on April 6 last year.

McEwan, of Banff Road, is also said to have touched the complainer’s breast during the assault.

Defence solicitor Aidan Gallagher told a brief hearing at the town's sheriff court that his client was pleading not guilty to the allegation.

Sheriff Sean Lynch continued proceedings to a trial, which is scheduled to start on September 5.
