POLICE say they are still trying to catch the thieves responsible for a spate of break-ins at businesses in Port Glasgow.

It's been confirmed that a third shop in the town was targeted towards the end of last week.

But Police Scotland say they haven't yet been able to establish whether the incidents were linked.

The Tele previously reported on a raid at Salon Ivy in Newark Street and two attempted break-ins on successive nights at Amethyst Hair and Beauty on King Street.

Amethyst was targeted on successive nights, August 28-29 and August 29-30, while thieves smashed their way into Salon Ivy on the same night as the second Amethyst raid.

Now the owner of a dog grooming salon in Church Street has confirmed an attempted break-in at the premises on the same night as the Salon Ivy raid and the second Amethyst incident.

Lisa Chambers, who owns the Port Toon Groom Room, said the business was targeted at around 5.30am on Friday.

Lisa told the Tele: "The main shop window was smashed in. One of the upstairs neighbours interrupted them.

"Other business in the town have been tried. It's disgusting.

"I've had the business for about four and a half years. I am extremely busy and I had to cancel all my appointments on Friday, and Tuesday there, to give me a chance to clear up.

"I run the business on my own, so I have to juggle my personal life with work.

"I don't keep any money on the premises.

"I've not had the opportunity to deal with the window, I don't know how much it will cost."

Two charity tins and vouchers were taken from Amethyst, while forensic officers visited the King Street business in their search for evidence.

Police say inquiries are continuing and say they are trying to establish if incidents are linked.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Enquiries are continuing to establish if these crimes are linked and we can't rule anything out at this time."

In a separate statement the spokesperson said; "A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 6am on Friday, August 30, 2024, officers received a report of damage at a premises on Church Street, Port Glasgow.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
