Local councillor Stephen McCabe said he was happy to back a bid for new wine bar in Kilmacolm after initially raising concerns about road safety.

Councillor McCabe, who raised concerns about road safety at the planning board meeting, said he is satisfied that owners will take this into consideration.

The application for change of use to a former retail premises at Octavia Buildings in Bridge of Weir Road was approved unanimously.

Speaking following the meeting Councillor McCabe said: "The application was approved unanimously, so implicitly I supported officers’ recommendation to grant.

"I expressed concerns about potential road safety issues as the premises are located at Kilmacolm Cross, which is a very busy and complicated junction, and on a section of Bridge of Weir Road where deliveries are not permitted.

"I am sure that the owners of the wine bar will be mindful of these issues in the operation of their premises."

There were more than 100 representations supporting the venture and six objections including accessibility, lack of parking and noise levels.
