WORKS will be taking place on an essential footpath in Greenock for the next month.

On behalf of Transport Scotland, trunk road operator Amey is undertaking the improvement works on the A78 in Greenock, including resurfacing and bus border kerb installation, between Neil Street and Branchton Road in both directions from September 9 until October 4.

This work will take place on a 24-hour basis under progressive footpath and nearside lane closures. Temporary bus stops will also be in operation at this time.

Transport bosses say this work will be undertaken in three phases.

The first phase 1 will be in place between September 9 and September 20 and will involve of a 24-hour nearside lane closure on the eastbound A78 carriageway between Gleniver Road and Neil Street.

The second phase will be in place between September 21 and September 27.

This phase will consist of a 24-hour nearside lane closure on the westbound A78 carriageway between Neil Street and Branchton Road.

The third and final phase will be in place between September 28 and October 4 and will consist of a narrow lane restriction on the westbound A78 carriageway between Branchton Road and Branchton Train Station.

A total closure of the footpath in the location the works are taking place will be in operation during all three phase and temporary bus stops will be in operation at those areas.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout the works.

An Amey spokesperson said: “All schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.

“We thank road users for their patience and understanding while this work is being undertaken.”
