A 16-YEAR-OLD boy has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged serious assault in Greenock on Sunday. 

Police were called to a report of an incident on Inverkip Street at around 2.35pm on Sunday, September 8.

A 49-year-old man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley for treatment. 

Officers then sealed off an area of pavement adjacent to the roundabout at the bottom of the road.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were called to a report of a serious assault in the Inverkip Street area of Greenock around 2.35pm on Sunday, September 8.

“Emergency services attended and a 49-year-old man was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

“A 16-year-old male youth has been arrested and charged in connection and is due to appear at court at a later date.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
