Dancing queens were delighted to hit the floor as a popular Inverclyde tea dance returned to the calendar - for the first time since the pandemic.

Senior citizens from across Inverclyde enjoyed the bash with the team from Clyde Coast Radio, who played some fantastic tunes to get the disco divas on the dance floor.

Young-at-heart dancers enjoyed a medley of songs from Hot Chocolate, the Bee Gees and Abba at the first tea dance since Covid took hold and put the regular events on hold.

Jim McCabe, 80, said: "I was at the last one at Craigend, and this one, and I'll be at the next one.

"It's been brilliant, I like the company and the music is great."

His friend Jim Ward, 98, said: "It's been absolutely fantastic. Everyone is being civil to each other."

The celebration, including a spread of sandwiches and cake, was organised by Your Voice.

Rosalind Jackson, community connector with Your Voice said: "It's the first tea dance in the town hall since Covid.

"We had another tea dance at Craigend Resource Centre in February that was wonderful."

"It's a disco with music from Clyde Coast Radio. A few of the carers have come up to me to said 'this is amazing'. The feedback has been really good.

"We had 114 people in the hall. We have some locals from Inverclyde and some residents from care homes: Quarriers, Crown Care, Merino Court, Alt-na-Craig, Larkfield View, and Little Sisters of the Poor.

"It gives the people in Inverclyde, whether they live in a care home or are living in their own homes, the chance to meet up, socialise, have a dance and some afternoon tea."

Liz Anderson, 78, of St Margaret's Court in Greenock, said: "I think these things are important because we've still got a lot of life in us. It might not be in our body but it's in our mind.

"I used to work in pubs and I'm enjoying all the music."
