GOUROCK Golf Club members raised almost £3,000 in an effort to support charity Breast Cancer Now in an amazing act of generosity.
Forty-eight club members and friends took to the course on a very warm and sunny September day for the ladies section's annual Flag Day fundraiser, with the objective of not being the first to plant their flag.
Despite attentions being on the fairways, the main intention of the day was to raise as much money for our charity, Breast Cancer Now, whilst attempting to be the last to plant their flag.
The organising team were delighted to report that, on a day where only one downpour threatened play, the magnificent sum of £2,818 was raised for the club's chosen charity.
The funds were raised from entry fees, fines on and off the course, home baking, guess the weight of the cake, picking the name of the pink teddy, and on-line and ad hoc donations.
An event spokesperson said: "Thanks go to all those who participated in making this a day to remember: the ladies' committee, helpers Barbara, Morag, Carolyn and Harry, as well as to course manager Hugh Logue and the grounds team.
"Thanks also to Derek Watters and the Pro’s shop, catering and bar staff, and last but not least the tee-girl sponsors, local businesses, friends, and members for raffle prizes."
Prize winners were as follows.
Lucky scorecard: Logan & Margaret Young.
Women into Golf Pink Competition: 1 Ann Cameron and Lynsey Murdoch; 2 Shirley Morton and Diane Hughes.
Flag Competition: 1 Linda McLaughlin and Chris Mooney (18th fairway); 2 Karen Skewies and David Burnie (18th fairway); 3 Liz Rankin and Allan Warwick (17th hole).
Endeavour prize: Margaret Dickson and David Thomson (14th fairway).
The club spokesperson added: "The ladies committee pass on their congratulations to all the winners, and to everyone who took part, and thank everyone for digging deep and raising such a terrific amount."
