AN 11-YEAR-OLD girl has been rushed to hospital following a collision on Greenock’s Rue End Street this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 8:15am.

Police say the incident involved one vehicle and a 11-year-old pedestrian.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 8.15am on Friday, September 13 we were called to a report of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Rue End Street, Greenock.

“Emergency services attended the 11-year-old child pedestrian was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children for treatment.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call today at 0811 hours to attend an incident on Brymner Street in Greenock.

"We dispatched one ambulance and our trauma team to the scene.

"We transported one female patient to the Children’s Hospital at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.”

Several police vehicles remain in attendance on Rue End Street.

The A8 was closed between the Bullring Roundabout and Greenock police office, with long queues reported on alternative routes.

The road reopened at 11.20am.

Shortly after the collision an eyewitness told the Telegraph: “There are a lot of police around and the road is still closed off.

“There’s a backpack lying in the middle of the road as well, and the windscreen of the car is quite badly smashed.

“The police have taped the area off and the crossing at the traffic lights outside the police station was closed as well.

“Traffic has been very busy but the police are doing their best to keep it moving.”
