AN INVERCLYDE railway station has scooped a prestigious UK-wide industry honour.
Wemyss Bay station was crowned winner of the Small Station of the Year prize at the National Rail Awards on Thursday evening.
The honours recognise excellence across all aspects of a railway's operation, from contributions made by those on the front line, to success on huge projects.
The station originally opened in 1865 but was rebuilt in 1903 - using a design by architect James Miller - to accommodate an increase in passenger numbers.
The A-listed building, which has an incredible glass roof, won the World Cup of Stations 2023 competition organised by the Rail Delivery Group.
Glasgow Queen Street won the Major Station of the Year award.
Phil Campbell, ScotRail customer operations director, said: “This has been a fantastic night for ScotRail at the National Rail Awards.
“To win one railway Oscar would have been impressive, but to come away with two is an incredible achievement that says so much about the commitment of the colleagues who work very hard to keep Scotland’s railway on track.”
