17/09/2011 – The world’s biggest cruise liner Queen Mary 2 sailed off into the distance as the port of Greenock celebrated another glorious summer season.
As onlookers watched from the Esplanade and other vantage points, the iconic ship majestically slipped away into the night.
She was the second big cruise liner to grace Inverclyde’s shores in as many weeks — with the Queen Elizabeth also causing a stir earlier that month.
The Queen Mary 2 visit furthered a strong link between Greenock and the famous cruise line Cunard.
Throughout the day, hundreds marvelled at her size and beauty.
Many of the 2,500 holiday makers and crew on board followed in the footsteps of others before them to sample the delights that Inverclyde has to offer.
Ocean Terminal, run by Clydeport, is celebrating another record-breaking year for cruise liners.
It revealed earlier that month that they were expecting summer 2012 to be even bigger and better than ever before.
Cruise liner passengers ere credited with helping to boost tourism and regeneration in Inverclyde.
