EMERGENCY services have set up a cordon at Greenock's Esplanade following a report of suspected ordnance near the shoreline.
Members of Greenock Coastguard Rescue team have sealed off part of the promenade while they deal with the object.
Police have also attended the incident to assist their coastguard colleagues.
A member of coastguard staff was seen taping off a section of pavement near the water while other first responders worked to secure the area.
A Coastguard spokesperson said: "Greenock Coastguard Rescue team has set up a cordon in response to a report of suspected ordnance near the shoreline at Greenock at about 3.40pm on September 16."
