A LOCAL road safety charity is running a cycling event for Inverclyde school pupils this weekend.

The Inverclyde Phoenix Road Safety group will be hosting the 'Safe Cycling' event which is open to all primary schools in the area.

Their annual Safe Cycle event will take place in the RBS Mortgage Centre in Greenock and is targeted at primary six and sevens.

On the day there will be a road safety quiz and then an assessment of all entrants cycling abilities.

Inverclyde Phoenix Road Safety president Robert Ingram said: "Our charity is able to offer and provide educational opportunities and experience to all our members and volunteers through our road safety initiatives.

"Members of our charity have also appreciated the efforts of Inverclyde Council, in gaining funds from different sources, to help our local communities come to life, by creating better walking and cycling routes, thus creating a healthier and happier place to live for everyone.

"The objectives of our charity are to provide education and training for children, adults, and the general public, on all aspects of road safety.

"We also organise, promote, and sponsor road safety events, in addition, to providing advice on safe vehicle maintenance."

Inverclyde Road Safety Group has been organising safe cycling events for 35 years.

The Cycling Safety event takes place this Saturday, September 21, from 10am to 3pm at the RBS Mortgage Centre.
