POLICE are appealing for information after launching an investigation into the attempted murder of a man at a Greenock pub.
Detectives are probing an incident which took place at The James Watt on Cathcart Street at around 6:30pm on Tuesday.
A 60-year-old man was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where staff describe his condition as serious.
Detective inspector Nicky Beattie said: “The family of the man are being supported by police and being kept up to date with the ongoing investigation.
“I am appealing to anyone that can help with our investigation to come forward.
"We believe there were a number of people within the premises at the time and I would appeal to anyone who was there on Tuesday night to speak to us if you have not already done so.
“Those with information can speak to officers by calling 101 and quoting incident number 0962 of 18 September.
"Alternatively, you can make an anonymous report to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
A spokesperson for Wetherspoons, which runs the pub, said: "We understand that a customer sustained an injury when at the James Watt, Greenock on Tuesday evening.
"Given that the matter has been referred to the police, we are unfortunately not in a position to comment further.
"Wetherspoon will fully assist the police with any enquiries."
