THE boss of one of Inverclyde's top firms has won a top prize at the Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year awards.

McLaren Packaging managing director Donald McLaren was awarded the EY Scottish Entrepreneur of the Year 'transformational leader' prize.

The Port Glasgow company was nominated for the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year, a unique global programme recognising achievement among individuals and companies.

Judges named Donald a winner on account of his achievements in developing and transforming the fortunes of the business over a number of years.

Donald said: “I am both delighted and humbled to be recognised with such a prestigious award.

"My efforts have been supported by the talented and passionate team of over 300 across McLaren Packaging. This is a very proud moment for me and the team.”

McLaren Packaging, established in the town in 1979, has grown to sales of more than £45 million across a wide range of paper-based packaging, primarily for the UK drinks sector.

Employing more than 300 people and operating across seven sites in central Scotland, McLaren Packaging is a privately owned business supplying independent operators through to large multi-national organisations, leading on innovation, quality and service.
