AN INVERCLYDE butcher has secured top marks from judges for several of its sausages and pork products.
McCaskie’s on Shore Road, Wemyss Bay, won gold status at the Scottish Craft Butcher Awards for its beef slice sausage, Thai pork baskets, sweet BBQ king ribs, and lemon pepper escalope.
The products were submitted for a grilling by experts at an evaluation held at Forth Valley College in Alloa last month, with more than 140 entries received from butchers across Scotland.
The results were then announced at the Scottish Craft Butchers’ regional meeting in Stepps last week.
George Jarron, president of the Scottish Craft Butchers, said: “All butchers think we make the best products but it is not until you pitch them against others that you find out just how good they really are.
“To win awards in this evaluation is a great honour for the recipients because the standards are high and by highlighting the best available this serves as an important signpost for sliced sausage lovers on the quest for the best.
“I know how important sausages are to customers and I hope that all recipients of awards attract new and repeat business.”
Event sponsor Colin Hewitson added: “Sliced Sausage is an iconic product here in Scotland.
“The Scots at home and abroad crave the taste and texture that it provides.
“The local butcher is the home of high quality sliced sausage with many distinctive recipes that we all enjoy.
“Whether on a roll or as part of a hearty breakfast we can all appreciate a great sliced sausage.
“We are proud to sponsor this evaluation and congratulations to all the award winners.”
