SEPTEMBER 25, 2013: Morton boss Allan Moore struggled for words as he tried to explain his pride after seeing his side secure a sensational 1-0 victory over Celtic.
After a goalless 90 minutes, Dougie Imrie converted from the spot in extra-time to score what turned out to be the winning goal as Ton sent the Parkhead side crashing out of the League Cup.
Moore was almost left speechless by his team’s heroic performance but eventually managed to convey his joy and delight at what he described as a magnificent moment for the club.
He beamed: “That was absolutely magnificent.
“Football never fails to surprise. To be honest I’m flabbergasted with what we did out there tonight.”
“It’s not really sunk in, to be honest, because with the team Celtic put out — they put out a strong team; it wasn’t a weakened team by any means — we handled it very well.
“To a man we were excellent, especially when compared to the league form we’ve had over recent weeks.
“The way we dealt with Celtic was magnificent. We conceded a goal from Iain Russell on Saturday, who’s smaller than me, and Celtic were throwing in guys who were six feet tall.
“But we defended brilliantly. We rode our luck in extra-time. Up until extra time I don’t think Celtic really troubled our goalkeeper.
“The fact they stuck a central defender up there to put us under pressure was testament to how well we played and defended.
“We’ve been losing goals in the league. So to come here, to Celtic Park, and not lose a goal over 90 minutes and extra-time is a feat in itself.
“What a dressing room that was at full-time. That’s why you come and play football. What a memory that is for the Slovakian boys.
“They’re on their phones speaking to people back home in Slovakia. Big Kabba [Modou Cham] is on the phone to people back in Belgium.
“They were talking about swapping jerseys with the Celtic players before the match and we told them to make sure if they did they were handing over a shirt soaked in sweat.
"And they were."
