A BROKEN lift which left residents trapped in a top-storey flat in Greenock has finally been fixed...after the Tele stepped in.

Angry homeowners spoke out about the ongoing problems which left them prisoners in their own home.

Fed up Linda Graham, who is recovering from cancer and her husband Andrew, who is a bypass patient, were left struggling to struggling to get out of their home for five weeks.

MSP Stuart McMillan also stepped in to try to resolve the situation.

Linda said: "Finally it is fixed and I would like to thank the Tele.

"We felt we had no choice but to speak out. The lift had been broken down since the start of August and before that it was out of action for five weeks.

"We were really struggling and some people in the flats couldn't get out at all."

We previously reported that the couple, originally from Dunoon, made the decision to move to Greenock two years ago because of the cost and travel connected to their regular visits to Inverclyde Royal Hospital.

They said the presence of a lift in the block made it "so handy" - until it broke down earlier this year.

Linda said: "Andrew had a bypass 18 years ago but on the first day of the pandemic he took a heart attack and had to go to the Golden Jubilee. He was fitted with four stents."

Before that, Linda, who was diagnosed with neck cancer before undergoing gruelling treatment, had ended up trapped inside the lift when it broke down and had to call the fire brigade to come to her rescue.

She added: "We need a long term solution to this. We need a reliable lift. It is also costing us all a lot of money."

We spoke to the factors McTavish at the time, who said that they had made repeated calls to the lift service company.

It was finally fixed last week after being out of action since August 29.
