A MAN who grew up close to two notorious Greenock families has written a book which delves into drink, drugs, and death in the 1990s.

Norrie Kinney penned Maggie's Boys - A True Story which tells the tale of the McIntosh and McMenamin clans.

Norrie's aunts on his dad's side were Maggie McMenamin and Betty McIntosh, who between them had 14 children.

The families became entangled in crime in Greenock around 30 years ago, which led to the murder of Norrie's cousins Tedge McIntosh and Joseph McMenamin.

He said: "I'm very, very proud to have it out there. It's something that will be there for my relatives long after I've gone.

"I couldn't get it published but I wanted to keep it as it was.

"This is my truth."

Norrie started visiting his Aunt Maggie and Aunt Betty and their children back in the 1960s.

Maggie had eight boys and Betty had three boys and three girls.

Norrie said he was shocked by what his cousins would get up to.

He added: "I used to go through and see my Greenock family every weekend to spend time with my cousins.

"I used to come home and write down everything I saw and heard.

"It was crazy what they would all get up to.

"I couldn't believe what was actually happening.

"Later in life, I knew I wanted to gather it all together in a book.

"I've told it all through my own eyes."

He added: "Everything in the book is true.

"Quite a few people from Greenock have bought it already.

"I just want people to read it. I'm so happy that it's out there."
