Inverclyde is set to see a larger military presence than normal as Exercise Strike Warrior begins next month.

It will take place between October 14 and 27 and will see a series of training exercises and events in the north of Scotland and the North Sea involving warships, submarines and aircraft.

The exercise is held at this time of year annually and sees military assets of all shapes and sizes using the region as a base, with previous exercises seeing vessels dock at HMNB Clyde, Hunterston and Greenock.

Aircraft are also set to use Prestwick Airport as a base and staging area for the duration of the exercise.

This year's exercise is set to include aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales, with UK F-35 jets on board.

Strike Warrior will include participation from Canadian, German, Norwegian and French maritime patrol aircraft.

There will also be RAF P-8A Poseidons, Swedish Grippens and UK-based United States Air Force aircraft involved.

Aircraft are set to be based at locations including Prestwick, Stornoway and Teesside airports, and RAF bases including Lossiemouth, Coningsby, Waddington, Lakenheath and Brize Norton.

The skies and waters of Ayrshire are likely to see increased military activity throughout the two-week exercise.
