INVERCLYDE youngsters got a pizza the action with help from a local restaurant in a fun-packed project. 

Chefs Jamie Wade and Gavin O'Donnell from Punto in Kilmacolm visited youngsters at Kilmacolm Primary as part of the school's programme of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths) activities. 

In preparation for the visit, pupils were challenged to come up with 10 uniquely-named pizzas, using any toppings they wanted, which would be brought to life by the talented chefs. 

The winning pizza was set to feature on the specials board at Punto this weekend - but the judges were so impressed with the youngsters' ideas that every dish was added as a meal at the restaurant. 

(Image: George Munro) Teacher Wendy McKeegan is co-ordinating all of the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) activities in the school. 

Wendy said: "It's been great fun and the children are so excited about it. 

"It's been great for the parents to be involved as well. 

"We're hoping that families will go into Punto and sample the pizzas that the children created."

Groups followed instructions in the STEM lab to create their own individual pizza boxes and decorated them to suit each unique pizza. 

Some of the pizza topping included herbs grown in the school garden. 

The team at the Co-op donated ingredients, and Punto supplied the dough, sauce, and cheese.

Head chef Jamie said: "The pupils have been finding out about the whole process of making pizzas and science behind it. 

"We've followed the 10 different recipes and brought the pizzas to life.

"My cookery teacher at Clydeview Academy made me want to become a chef, so it shows that young people can be inspired by what they learn about. 

"Being a chef is a great job."

Pupil Fraser Hughes, 10, said: "It's been a lot of fun. 

"Our pizza had chorizo, pepperoni, and olive oil. 

"We are all looking forward to tasting them."

Pupil Jess McLaren, 10, added: "It's been great fun and super exciting.

"Our pizza had ham, sausage, basil, and mozzarella."
