PLANS have been lodged to install new charging points for electric vehicles at a Greenock shopping park.
The EV Network has applied to Inverclyde Council for permission to install five ‘ultra rapid’ charging stations, serving 10 parking spaces, at the Waterfront Retail Park.
The facilities are planned for the western end of the retail park, to the side of the existing Halfords store, next to Container Way.
A design and access statement submitted along with the formal application reveals that each charger will be an ‘Alpitronic HYC300’ unit, capable of delivering 300kW charging power.
The EV Network says the side is “an ideal location for EV charging stations” and that each of the charging points will be able to charge two vehicles at once.
A substation is also included in the company’s proposals.
The firm’s application says that six of the existing parking bays in the area will be lost if permission is granted, but that “given the scale of the parking provision that already exists on the wider site, this is seen as an acceptable parking loss for the provision of a high standard EV charging hub, which is inclusive for all EV drivers”.
It also says that if planning permission is approved, the installation process can be completed in around two weeks.
