INVERCLYDE’S MP has sought assurances that a full train timetable will return to the area after a long-running union dispute was brought to an end.

Martin McCluskey wrote to ScotRail bosses this week, noting that he was ‘glad to hear’ that a settlement had been reached between the rail operator and drivers’ union Aslef.

A temporary reduced timetable was introduced across Scotland in July due to fewer staff than usual being available for overtime and rest day working – as is their contractual right.

Drivers voted to accept a 4.5 per cent pay rise, backdated to April, earlier this week.

In his letter, Mr McCluskey wrote: “On behalf of my constituents, I would appreciate your reassurance, following resolution of this dispute, that a return to the full and normal timetable will take place soon.

“I would likewise appreciate any update you can provide on ScotRail’s plans to reintroduce the full timetable, and the timescales involved."

ScotRail service delivery director Mark Ilderton said: “All parties involved have worked hard to find an agreement that recognises the hard work of staff, as well as providing value for money for the public finances.

“We will provide an update for customers on the timetable as soon as possible.

“We can now look forward to continuing our work with our staff and trade union colleagues to encourage more people to choose to travel by rail as a safe, reliable, and green form of public transport.”
