A TOP team of big-hearted workers from a popular Port Glasgow store have brought a beautiful outdoor space to life to benefit elderly residents.
B&Q employees dedicated their staff community day to rejuvenating the sensory and memorial garden at Glenfield Care Home.
Glenfield's activity co-ordinator Di Knox applied for a grant through the Neighbourly scheme - a platform which gives businesses the chance to donate volunteer time, money, and products to good causes.
The team at B&Q decided to award £1,000 via the Neighbourly programme to Glenfield to spend in the Port Glasgow shop, and provided staff to help bring Di's vision to life.
B&Q Port Glasgow managers Carol Docherty and Matthew Carnegie were part of a team of seven who carried out the work, which included painting, planting, weeding, and laying slabs and gravel.
Di said she was hugely grateful to the team for their help and said she's thrilled with the transformation.
She added: "We couldn't have done all of this without them.
"It's a lovely space for the residents and we're focusing on all of the senses.
"We want them to come out and see all of the different colours, and we've planted herbs in the raised beds to create nice smells.
"We've bought wind chimes that will hang in the trees and create lovely sounds.
"It's all about reflecting the changing seasons as well.
"It's amazing to see it all coming to life."
Di said she hopes residents and families will use the garden as a place to sit and relax and enjoy the outdoors.
She added: "It started life as a memorial rose garden for staff and residents, so we think of it as a place of contemplation too.
"We'll bring residents out to sit and look at everything that's around them."
B&Q manager Matt said: "It's been great to get out and help Di and the residents today by getting the sensory garden set up.
"B&Q chooses a different charity to support every year and we're so pleased to be able to help the home this time around.
"It's been good to do some team building as well.
"It's been a great day and we've all been focused on our own jobs as well as pulling together as a team."
