A PLANNING application for a proposed battery energy storage system in Port Glasgow has been withdrawn.
Bluestone Energy had lodged an application seeking permission for a 49-megawatt facility at the former Dougliehill Water Treatment Works at Dougliehill Road.
The firm said that the development would make use of disused brownfield land, and that it would be connected to the national electricity grid by cable to a substation at Devol Moor.
As part of the application, the firm said it aimed to commence construction once planning permission was granted, with a targeted completion date of the end of 2026.
The proposal was classed as a 'major development', and included surveys for ecology, landscape and visual impact, noise, air quality, hydrology and flood risk, and transport.
A number of drop-in public events were held in Greenock at the turn of the year, before the planning application was submitted to Inverclyde Council.
The application is now listed as 'withdrawn' on the council's planning portal.
Bluestone Energy has been contacted for comment.
