A SHERIFF has branded a Greenock man’s pattern of domestic offending as ‘concerning’ after he admitted acting aggressively towards his former partner.

Craig McCairn appeared in court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to a single charge of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at an address in Greenock on June 30.

During the incident, the 33-year-old shouted, swore, and adopted and aggressive manner towards the woman.

Fiscal depute Joanne Gilmour told the court that McCairn and the complainer were at the property at around 6pm when an argument ensued regarding social media.

Ms Gilmour said: “He then began getting angry and started shouting and swearing at her.

“He was acting in an aggressive manner towards her.

“The matter was reported to police and he was cautioned and charged, to which he made no reply.”

Defence solicitor Aidan Gallagher noted that the relationship was now at an end.

He described the subject of the argument as being something which ‘hurt Mr McCairn greatly’.

Sheriff James Varney told McCairn: “You appear before this court with a bad record for domestic offending.

“That in itself is concerning.”

McCairn, of Clynder Road, was made subject to a community payback order which requires him to carry out 90 hours of unpaid work in six months.

This was reduced from 100 hours due to McCairn’s guilty plea.

He was also ordered to stay away from the complainer for a period of one year.
