ANOTHER fantastic cruise season has come to a close at Greenock’s Ocean Terminal.

Since April the area has been visited by more than 60 cruise ships which have brought thousands of passengers to Greenock from all over the world.

To celebrate the end of the season, we’ve chosen our seven favourite ships that paid a visit to Inverclyde this year.

Regal Princess

The 20-deck Regal Princess was both the first and last large cruise ship to visit Inverclyde in 2024.

She made a total of 13 stop offs in the area across the sailing season and on one occasion the Telegraph were invited on board for a tour.

The impressive vessel boasts more than 1,400 balconies which given sweeping sea views for passengers and also has a glass-floor walkway extending 28 feet beyond the edge of the ship.

Inside the ship has an impressive array of attractions and facilities, which include a casino, a sophisticated theatre, an outdoor cinema, three large dining rooms, a TV studio and a luxurious spa.

Queen Anne

Cunard’s second largest liner made two visits to Inverclyde this year as part of her maiden season.

The 113-000 tonne cruise ship was built last year and is the 249th ship to sail under the world-renowned Cunard flag.

After her first visit to Greenock in June, she headed off to Liverpool for her naming ceremony, a lavish event which featured a performance from superstar singer Andrea Bocelli.

She returned to Greenock for a second time later in the season amid a 14-day trip from Southampton.

The gigantic vessel’s visit caught the eye of many of our readers, who sent in their own snaps of the impressive ship.

Disney Dream

Disney’s cruise ships are always popular with locals and this year’s visitor was no different.

The 14-deck vessel arrived in Greenock on September 10, carrying around 4,000 passengers.

The ship is home to a wide variety of Disney-inspired venues and activities and performers on-board also put on Broadway-style shows such as Beauty and the Beast.

Local mums and dads were spotted taking their wee ones down to the Ocean Terminal so they could get a look at the stunning ship.

AIDAbella

This ship greeted Greenock with a grin when she stopped off in mid-August.

AIDAbella’s most noticeable feature is her paintjob, which includes a large, red-lipped smile across her hull.

The vessel brought around 2,500 passengers with her when she visited earlier this year amid a 14-day round trip of Great Britain and Ireland.

Her name was chosen by operators AIDA Cruises to signify her beauty and while she may not be everyone’s cup of tea, her eye-catching nature is undeniable.

Renaissance

Renaissance’s visit to Greenock was a pleasant surprise.

The ship had not been scheduled to berth at the Ocean Terminal, but bad weather in Oban forced her to make an unplanned stop off.

Oban’s loss was Inverclyde’s gain as local cruise ship enthusiasts got a chance to get an up close look at the elegant vessel.

Renaissance can carry around 1,200 guests across her five passenger decks.

Queen Mary 2

The world famous Queen Mary 2 paid its first visit to Greenock in almost 10 years when she arrived on September 5.

Telegraph photographer George Munro was on hand to capture one of the best moments of the day as Cunard’s flagship brushed shoulders with the new Royal Navy frigate HMS Cardiff, which was being towed past.

The 150,000 QM2 attracted lots of attention from locals as scores of Greenock residents flocked to see her.

The ship, which can carry up to 2,700 passengers, visited while she was on a 12-day sail around the British Isles.

Jewel of the Seas

Royal Caribbean’s gigantic Jewel of the Seas arrived in Inverclyde on June 17 and brought the sunshine with her.

Her visit came amid a busy spell at the cruise ship terminal on a beautiful summer morning.

The 13-deck vessel can hold 2,500 passengers and was first launched in 2004.
