A DRIVER who allegedly crashed a car into a Greenock supermarket after getting behind the wheel while unfit through drink or drugs looks set to face a trial before a jury.
Derek McKimm, 47, is charged with dangerously driving a Honda Civic at Tesco on Dalrymple Street on September 6.
Prosecutors say he travelled at excessive speeds and drove into the path of pedestrians before colliding with the store.
McKimm is alleged to have caused extensive damage to the store, with customers having to be evacuated from within.
He is also accused of driving without a valid policy of insurance, as well as failing to provide a blood sample required to ascertain the proportion of drugs in his blood at the time.
McKimm, of Market Drayton in Shropshire, appeared in private on petition before Sheriff Sean Lynch at Greenock Sheriff Court on Friday.
He made no plea through defence solicitor Aidan Gallagher and was granted bail.
McKimm has been committed for further examination, with a date for his next appearance in court to be confirmed.
