A TOP trio from Kilmacolm pushed themselves to the limits by running for miles to help send youngsters on an adventure of a lifetime.

Dad David Hannah stepped up to run his first ever half marathon as part of a fundraiser for the 42nd Greenock & District Scouts' trip to Norway.

Volunteer leaders Maureen Todd and Helen Nawrath also signed up for the Kiltwalk in Edinburgh, managing to clock up 21 miles.

Their efforts are part of a wider campaign to raise up to £5,000 to help the youngsters make memories that will last a lifetime when they visit the adventure residential TrollAktiv.

Scout trustee David, 47, said: "My daughter Louise is in the Scouts and going on the trip. She really loves being part of the Scouts since she started in the Cubs.

"It is an amazing organisation.

"I wanted to do something to help with the trip. I first started running during the pandemic with my wife, Adele set up our own group, the Kilmacolm Unofficial Running Club. It really helped with my physical and mental health.

"I have lost four stone since I started running. I wanted to do something to help with the Scouts, so I decided to sign up for the half marathon in the village.

"I had only ever done 10Ks before.

"It was great. Everyone was there cheering me on."

David was so keen to support the work of the 42nd Greenock and District Scouts that he joined as a trustee in 2021.

He said: "It is the least I can do, and it really does not take up much of my time.

"But it is the leaders like Maureen and Helen who do all the hard work. They give up their own time to run the Scouts and to organise everything."

The trip next June will be the first time the Kilmacolm based youth organisation has ventured on a journey abroad since the pandemic.

Maureen said: "We want to make this as special as possible and we want to help parents with the cost.

"We have more fundraising ideas planned as a group. It will be the trip of a lifetime for them."
