NEWARK Angling Club rounded off their 2024 freshwater campaign when the anglers travelled to the foot of the Highlands.
Trips to Lochs Lubhair, the River Dochart and Loch Dochart saw a thrilling afternoon of action.
A good day's work from all involved meant for a healthy competition and that the senior freshwater title was won by George Gemmell senior.
The senior citizens' freshwater title was retained by George Martin, and the junior freshwater title was won by young Callum McDonald.
Eighteen wild brown trout were returned at the venues on a cracking day as the end of the fishing season draws nearer.
The anglers on Loch Tay were competing for the Jim McEwan Memorial Trophy for the heaviest fish returned from the Tay, and the silverware was ilfted by Barry Doolan with a cracking brown trout of nearly 2lb.
Gilbert Bradley, fishing the Fearnan area on the Tay, would return five nice trout on the maggot, whilst anglers on the Dochart also caught and returned some nice trout.
Billy Stirling, fishing near to the Luib Hotel on the river, would return two trout on the maggot.
George Martin would manage two returns on the river, including the heaviest trout of the outing of more than 1lb.
Ray Hitchision returned one nice river trout to get on the points board.
Billy Matthews enjoyed his day on the river returning a brace of Dochart Brownies.
The Auchyne area on the river saw Ian Ross and John Miller both return undersize trout, two apiece on the maggot, getting on the points board.
George Gemmell senior, on Loch Lubhair, continued his good season, returning three of the loch's trout on the spinner.
Results as follows:
Gilbert Bradley 3lb 2oz, George Martin (2) 2lb 1oz, George Gemmell senior 1lb 15oz, Billy Matthews 1lb 11oz.
