07/10/2015 - Excited staff and pupils awarded a gold star to Greenock’s newest school as its official re-opening ceremony was held.
Ardgowan Primary hosted a special ceremony after move back to its Newton Street home following a £5m redevelopment.
Pupils and staff had been decanted at the former Sacred Heart Primary while their school was redeveloped.
They have returned to a state-of-the art showpiece extended facility which has thrilled the whole school community.
The project was part of Inverclyde Council’s massive school estate upgrade programme.
Councillor Martin Brennan, a former teacher, was given the honour of officially opening the building.
He said: “It’s a real pleasure to be here to mark the start of a new chapter in the story of Ardgowan Primary School.
“This building here has played an important part in education in Greenock for over a century.”
Cllr Brennan unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion and praised the school’s design.
He added: “This school has been built in a way to maximise the potential for learning.”
During the ceremony some of the pupils took to the stage to speak about why they love their new school so much.
There were also excellent musical performances from the school choir and clever primary four pupils sang the hit song ‘Let It Go’ — in French — from the Disney film Frozen.
