AN author and music historian popped into a Port Glasgow radio station on her UK book tour.

Elizabeth Sharkey, who is married to Feargal Sharkey, formerly lead singer of The Undertones, met the team at Clyde Coast Radio last week.

Elizabeth stopped off at the station before her appearance at Beacon Arts Centre the same night, where she spoke about her book Why Britain Rocked: How Rock Became Roll and Took Over the World.

Elizabeth said: "It's been incredible to see the Clyde in all its glory, that means to much to me.

"It makes you think of the stories that the river carried across the Atlantic and the music that went with it, it's so romantic.

"It makes me think of Woody Guthrie and his song about the Clyde after he spent time in Glasgow during the Second World War.

"He was so enamoured by Scotland and its music that he was compelled to write a farewell song.

"It's such an inspirational landscape.

"I'm very happy to be here to speak to George and the team and to be interviewed."

Station founder George Coyle said: "We're so excited to have Elizabeth here.

"We're very happy that she picked us to come and visit on her trip to Scotland."
