10/10/2013 - Morton had agreed terms with former Rangers striker Nacho Novo and were expected to complete his signing.

Spaniard Novo began his career in his homeland with lower league clubs such as Racing Ferrol, Somozas, and Huesca, but it was in Scotland that the frontman made his name.

After impressive spells with Raith Rovers and Dundee, then-Rangers boss Alex McLeish paid a fee believed to be in the region of £450,000 to secure his services.

He became a Rangers cult hero in his time in Glasgow, scoring 73 goals in 255 appearances over six seasons.

Novo returned home to Spain in the summer of 2010 to play with La Liga outfit Sporting Gijon, with whom he had signed a two-year deal.

The 34-year-old also featured for Polish side Legia Warsaw and former club Huesca in the Spanish second tier.

However, he returned to Scotland this summer, and after a training stint at Rangers and a trial with Kilmarnock failed to lead to contracts, Morton chairman Douglas Rae swooped.

Speaking exclusively to the Tele, a delighted Mr Rae said: “Crawford and I spent today negotiating with Nacho Novo and he will sign with us tomorrow [Thursday].

“He has agreed to sign until January. There could be an option to extend that until the end of the season, but the better he does the more likely it will be that a Premiership club will come in for him.

"If a Premiership club did not come in for him, it is something we would look at again at that stage.

“For now we have committed to an undertaking which will see him join until January."
