THE owner of a Greenock town centre takeaway says he's been turned into a cult hero after being handed a starring role in a film which is a real family affair.

Joe Scott, who runs Scotts in the West Blackhall Street, told the Tele he didn't have to be asked twice to reprise the role of 'mad' Malcolm Lyons in Sharp Instinct Volume II, which is set to premiere in the Beacon later this month - and is made by his own nephew.

We previously told how talented 15-year-old film-maker Callum McLelland had made a follow-up to his hit debut, starring his family and friends.

The new film will feature at the Beacon as part of the upcoming Galoshans Festival, with the promise of some TV celebrities to be unveiled on the night.

"We have had a right laugh. I get a great reaction and it is amazing who has seen it.

" It was great playing a baddie!

"It has been great fun. We had a brilliant time shooting the movie here in Inverclyde.

"We even shot on location when we were on a family holiday in Turkey. Callum said 'right, come on, let's get some filming in'."

Joe has run the business for the last seven years and is now semi-retired.

Notre Dame High fourth year pupil Callum has taken on a feature film after the success of his debut Sharp Instinct, which premiered at the Waterfront Cinema in March 2023.

Sharp Instinct Volume II gives Malcolm Lyons the chance to run riot in Inverclyde for a second time, pursued by a police officer, played by family friend John Seggie.

John, a retired architect, said: "Callum is so talented and it has been brilliant, we all wanted to be involved again. We had great fun making it."

Super talented Callum has written and filmed the sequel with the support of family and friends, as well as local businesses including Scotts, the Lighthouse Bar, the Beacon, the Albany, Notre Dame High School and West College Scotland.

Callum told the Tele that there may even be some guest appearances on film from a couple of TV celebrities.

Sharp Instinct Volume II's premiere takes place at the Beacon on Thursday October 24 at 7pm, in aid of the Ardgowan Hospice.
