A PORT Glasgow woman has been locked up after she admitted dragging a shop worker to the ground by her hair in what her own lawyer labelled an "appalling" assault.
Bernadette Gemmell pleaded guilty to attacking the woman at the Food Warehouse store at the Gallagher Shopping Park on December 9 last year.
Greenock Sheriff Court heard that the 41-year-old entered the store at around 1.20pm and was observed by a member of staff, who approached her to speak with her.
But Gemmell pushed the woman backwards, seized her by the hair and dragged her to the ground before leaving the shop.
Defence solicitor Amy Spencer told the court that she had viewed CCTV footage of incident which was ‘clear as day’.
Ms Spencer added: “It’s appalling conduct from Ms Gemmell.
“It’s fortunate no injury was suffered.”
Sheriff James Varney told Gemmell: “You cannot walk into a shop, grab someone by the hair and throw them to the ground.
“This is a serious matter which could attract custody, in my view.
“I’m not satisfied that you are a suitable candidate for bail.”
Gemmell, of Milton Road, was remanded in custody, with her sentencing being deferred until October 23 pending the preparation of social work reports.
