A MAN is to stand trial after he denied ‘spreading excrement’ around a cell at Greenock police office.

Michael James Hassan, 43, is charged with wilfully or recklessly destroying or damaging property belonging to another at the Rue End Street station on July 20.

He faces a separate allegation of shouting, swearing, uttering threats of violence and striking a window and door at a property in Wemyss Bay on the same date.

Hassan, of Rothesay, pleaded not guilty to both charges through defence solicitor Gerry Keenan during a brief hearing at Greenock Sheriff Court.

He is due to return to court for trial on February 10.
