INVERCLYDE'S MSP has insisted that the SNP is looking after Scotland's public finances responsibly after the Scottish Government's latest accounts were published.

The figures show the government spent almost £54 billion in 2023/24 – recording an underspend of £277 million, or 0.5 per cent, which has been carried over to be spent in full in 2024/25.

Stuart McMillan says that in the face of austerity and public sector cuts from Labour in Westminster, the SNP is standing up for Scotland to ensure that we can eradicate child poverty, grow the economy, tackle the climate emergency and improve public services.

He said: “In Government, the SNP have year after year managed Scotland’s public finances responsibly and ensured that every possible penny is been invested in our public services.

“The Scottish Government works within the confides of a fixed budget – a budget which has been eroded by austerity and economic chaos inflicted by Labour and the Tories in Westminster.

“People in Inverclyde want investment in measures to tackle child poverty, grow the economy, tackle the climate emergency and improved public services.

"It is essential that the Labour party abandons austerity and increases investment in public finances.”
