A PORT Glasgow singer songwriter has paid tribute to his much-missed uncle by recording a song on his own original ukulele and releasing it in his honour.

Jack Vize's version of jazz standard I'll See You In My Dreams was unveiled on Friday to mark the third anniversary of his uncle Robert Vize's passing.

Jack, 22, said his uncle's love for the song began when he met singer and guitarist Joe Brown in the Prince of Wales pub in Port Glasgow back in the 1990s.

The Port singer songwriter said: "My uncle was playing along with the pub band and Joe popped in.

"He ended up playing with the band in a corner of the pub.

"Joe played I'll See You In My Dreams that night and my uncle was so inspired that he went out the next day and bought his album."

Jack added: "I remember going over to the house and there would be nights full of music, and everyone would end up playing something."

I'll See You In My Dreams was originally composed by Isham Jones, with lyrics by Gus Kahn, in 1924, and was recorded by Belgian-French guitarist Django Reinhardt.

It appears on a ukulele album released by Joe Brown in 2012.

Jack, who is studying music at the University of Aberdeen, recorded the tune on Robert's ukulele not long after he passed but feared he had lost the audio file.

He added: "I found it again on an old laptop and remixed and mastered it.

"My family have all been telling me that I should release it over the last three years.

"I had plenty of time this year before I started uni to sit and work on it."

He said he's really happy that I'll See You In My Dreams is out there for people to hear.

Jack added: "Everyone has been very kind. I think my uncle would be proud."

I'll See You In My Dreams is available on all the usual streaming platforms.
