FEARLESS fundraisers braved burning hot coals to raise more than £8,000 for a worthy local cause.
More than two dozen people took part in the second edition of Ardgowan Hospice’s fire walk fundraiser, which took place at Gourock Golf Club on October 4.
The event saw participants walk barefoot over a pile of blazing hot coals to show their support for the charity’s vital work.
Some of those taking part enjoyed the walk so much they agreed to do it a second time.
To prepare for the walk, the participants took part in a 90-minute mindfulness and wellbeing sessions, which involved them using their throats to snap an arrow in half.
The event was kindly sponsored by local firm Platinum Paving and live music was provided on the night by Drew Leslie.
The hospice launched the event last year and raised over £12,500 through their efforts, meaning they have now raised more than £20,000 across the two fire walks.
Joanna Hunter, fundraising manager at Ardgowan Hospice, told the Tele she was thrilled with the event’s successs.
She added: “The firewalk went really well. Our fundraising is at just over £8,000 at the moment which is brilliant.
“Gourock Golf Club was a brilliant venue to hold it at with beautiful views.
“Everybody really enjoyed the night.”
Platinum Paving owner William Peacock added: “Joanna got in touch with me and asked me to sponsor the firewalk and I thought it’d be a good thing to do as a local business.
“Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it on the night, but I heard it was success.
“That’s great for us and well continue to support the hospice.”
