A RETIRED Greenock GP's latest book is another exciting delve in to the darker side of medicine.
Author Anne Pettigrew is back with another thriller, Medicine, Money and Murder, which once again draws on her own experiences as a doctor.
In her other life as a family GP Anne spent more than 30 years caring for patients.
Now she is loving her new life penning crime novels including her debut, Not the Life Imagined, about a young female medicine student in Glasgow in the 1960s.
Her new book, by a new publisher, Sparsile Books, will be launched in Inverclyde next month.
Anne, who lives in Skelmorlie with husband Norman, said: "I am very excited about my new book. It was great fun to write.
"I am also delighted with my new publisher, Sparsile.
"This time my book is about two female medical students, Mhairi and Laura, who are off to the USA on a summer work placement. It is a typical work placement, what can possibly go wrong?
"As always, my books draw on my own experiences - without the murder! I went to New Jersey as a medical student in 1971. It was a great experience but it is was quite different from what we were used to.
"We had a reunion recently for those of us who were studying together. Some of them have worked in the USA, and I drew on their experiences as well.
"My book is basically about two Glasgow med student girls let loose in 1971 USA, who find dodgy docs, disappearing patients, a murdered colleague and danger while on summer attachment to an outwardly 'peaceful' and classy New Jersey hospital."
In Medicine Murder and Money, Mhairi and Laura quickly realise all is not well in the outwardly peaceful and prosperous Mount Pleasant Hospital.
Finding the principles and philosophy of US healthcare alien to their NHS medical experience, they are more troubled by sinister incidents, strained staff relationships and disappearance of a charity patient.
Medicine, Money and Murder is a thought-provoking tale of cultural clashes, ethical dilemmas, romance and humour with a thrilling twist.
Talented Anne told the Tele how she always loved writing, and after retiring from Ardgowan Practice, she became involved in writing groups including Greenock Writers.
This is her fourth book, with her debut, Not the Life Imagined, turning the spotlight on medicine following medical student Beth Slater.
The follow-up, Not the Deaths Imagined, took Beth into a GP practice.
Her third book, Carnellian Tree, took a different direction, with a new lead character, focusing on Oxford.
Anne Pettigrew will launch her new book at the Beacon Arts Centre on Friday November 8.
Medicine Murder and Money is £10.99 published by Glasgow publisher Sparsile.
It is available by visiting sparsilebooks.com or uk.bookshop.org online as well as other book stores.
