OCTOBER 18, 2012: Kip Marina in Inverkip was buzzing as boating enthusiasts sailed in from across the world for Scotland's Boat Show.

Visitors included minister for external affairs and international development Humza Yousaf, who was joined by local MSP Stuart McMillan to launch the weekend.

The show was the third largest in the UK and attracted a global audience to the area.

Mr Yousaf said: "It's a great event.

"This is the first time I've ever been to Inverkip and to a boat show. I'm genuinely blown away and astounded by the number of boats and visitors and the high level of interest in the event.

“It is a great couple of days that can only add to Scotland's tourism and economic growth.

“It's great the event is in its 26th year and I have no doubt it will continue for another very successful 26 to come."

Mr Yousaf was delighted with the contribution events such as the boat show make to Scotland's economy.

He said: "It's incredibly important for events like this to take place.

“Tourism in Scotland is worth £2.6 billion to the economy and the boating industry contributes about £100 million of that.

"It's a huge amount that it can contribute, and we need to ensure this event continues to grow in strength.

"It's just great to see an industry like this is growing."

Stuart McMillan was also pleased with the continuing success of the boat show.

Mr McMillan said: "All the team here at Kip do a tremendous job and have done so for the past 26 years.

"It keeps getting bigger and better and last year's event was the biggest yet so it is certainly encouraging

"This success story in Inverclyde can only be a good thing for the area.”
