MEMBERS of Greenock Coastguard Rescue Team took to the water at East India Harbour last week to practise their rescue techniques.
The exercise focused on the team’s water rescue techniques, and included a practice run of a tethered rescue.
The scenario sees a rescue swimmer enter the water and secure the casualty before being pulled in by a line tender on shore.
Some shore-based techniques such as the use of throwlines and one of the team’s tethered buoy rescue techniques were also used.
Both of these methods allow the Coastguard to help recover someone from the water without having to commit any team members into the water.
The team also practiced techniques for recovering both the casualty and the rescuer from the water.
