PEOPLE across Inverclyde harnessed the power of music and movement to raise more than £5,000 for a much-loved charity.

Big-hearted ladies Elaine Hunter, Kerry Kershaw, and Angela Slaven hosted a Zumbathon to generate cash for Ardgowan Hospice.

The amazing event, held at the 175 Club in Greenock on September 21, raised an incredible £5,252 for the cause.

More than 90 people showed off their dance moves in the two-hour exercise extravaganza, and Martin McCluskey MP and Councillor Francesca Brennan even popped in to support the participants on the day.

Zumba is a Latin dance inspired fitness programme which involves lots of cardio and lots of fun.

Angela, a district nurse who runs sessions in the Coppermine Community Centre in Gourock,  said: "It's a phenomenal amount of money.

"We raised so much more than we thought we would, more than we could ever have imagined.

"We've had amazing support from people and want to thank everyone for donating.

The money was raised through donations, sponsorship, and a raffle.

Ardgowan Hospice fundraising assistant Leonna Gallacher said the money will make a huge difference to patients.

She added: "This is an amazing amount and is such a generous donation.

"We want to say a huge 'thank-you' to Angela and the team for organising the event which I know had a great turnout."

The team behind the Ardgowan fund-raiser are now hoping to run more fundraisers in the future for other charities including Compassionate Inverclyde.
